Cars Opel Astra and Zafira – the summary

Model Opel/Vauxhall Astra-G has been presented to Great Britain in February, 1998 on replacement previous Astra, models F. Models with bodies the Sedan, the Versatile person and the Hatchback have been presented.

Series Zafira has been started in manufacture in June, 1999. The platform and suspension bracket Zafira is borrowed at Astra, but the body has a design of the Versatile person of the Raised Capacity. Zafira not only has seven passenger places located in three ranks, — it can quickly be transformed to the spacious truck, thanks to system "Flex-7" which allows to put a back row of seats level with a salon floor, forming a spacious cargo compartment.

Lineup Opel Astra/Zafira differs in extreme width of a spectrum of consumers of engines brought to attention. The full list of considered models of engines applied to a complete set is resulted in Specifications in the beginning of the Head the Engine. All engines belong to the class in line of 4-cylinder units with the top arrangement of one or two camshafts (SOHC or DOHC) and are established in a forward part of the car of cross-section diametrical plane of the last. In view of limitation of a place and avarice of sources of the information, in the present Management the most typical representatives of each class of applied engines are in detail shined only, namely: petrol 8-klapannyj engine SOHC in volume of 1.6 l, a number petrol 16-klapannyh engines DOHC in volume from 1.4 to 2.0 l, and also 8-klapannye diesel engines in volume of 1.7 l SOHC and DOHC and two representatives turbocharged 16-klapannyh diesel engines SOHC in volume of 2.0 l (the Head the Engine more in detail see).

Petrol models are equipped by electronic system central (Multec) or distributed (Multec-S or Simtec-70) fuel injection; turbocharged diesel engines are equipped by different high profitability system of direct injection of fuel with electronic control Fuel pump; raising к.п.д. turbocompressor the intermediate cooler (intercooler) enters into a standard complete set of all diesel models 1.7 of l, on l models 2.0 intercooler engines with high pressure a turbo-supercharging (see the Head of the Power supply system and release more in detail) are equipped only.

Transfer of a twisting moment from the engine to shaft of a drive of forward wheels is carried out by means of a 5-step manual box of a gear change established on the left side of the power unit (manual transmission), or 4-step automatic transmission (АТ) (Heads the Manual transmission and Automatic transmission more in detail see).

The brake system is equipped by the regular vacuum amplifier. On all models disk brake mechanisms of forward wheels are used, back brake mechanisms can be both disk, and drum-type. In addition to entering into a standard complete set of the majority of models ABS some models are equipped traction control with system (TCS), on some models of Universal/Zafira the regulator of height of a road gleam of a back axis (the Brake system see the Head) is established.

Completely the independent suspension bracket of forward wheels consists of racks of MakFersona and cross-section bottom levers. Steering — rack and pinion, with the hydraulic booster, the steering mechanism is located behind the engine. The electrohydraulic steering pump is established directly on the steering mechanism and does not demand service. The tank of a hydraulic liquid is built in pump assemblage (the Suspension bracket and a steering see the Head).

Both series (Astra and Zafira) are equipped with the full-size driver's pillows of safety established as the standard equipment. Lateral and head pillows of safety can enter into an additional complete set. The passenger pillow of safety is established as the standard equipment, since January, 1999. The system is applied to protection against breaking immobilization the engine. The regular radio tape recorder is equipped by a protective code.

The control system of speed (tempostat) can be established on some models on special order.

For the motorist cars Astra/Zafira are simple in service, expenses on the maintenance are shown to a minimum, and the majority of the knots demanding frequent attention, are readily available.

At regular and correct service car Astra/Zafira will serve to the owner many long years, remaining reliable and rather economic.
